Maison Alexis review: our verdict
At Maison Alexis, it all starts in front of the display case: well-executed millefeuilles, Paris-Brest, and entremets, the kind you buy "to taste" and start eating in the car. Upstairs, the terrace named "1951" overlooks the neighborhood and turns the pastry shop into a spot for brunch, afternoon tea, or a simple dinner, burgers included.
You come here for a family Sunday breakfast, a coffee with friends, or a box of cakes to give as a gift, and the team is friendly and efficient. This isn't the place for a grand dinner: the savory cuisine remains simple, and it's the pastries that make the house's reputation.
The dish to order: a piece from the display case, millefeuille or Paris-Brest at the top of the list. The trap: the menu is often out of stock, better to have a plan B in mind. The good time slot: from 7 a.m. for breakfast; the house closes at 8:30 p.m.
