Al Maaden Golf review: our verdict
A dozen monumental sculptures line the fairways of Al Maaden, setting it apart from other golf courses in Marrakech. The 18-hole course designed by Kyle Phillips, opened in 2010 over 72 hectares, also features rectangular pools reminiscent of the Ménara, set against a backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. With a Par 73 and 6,569 meters: wide fairways, fast greens, and plenty of water to avoid.
Flat and easy to walk, the course suits all levels, and the academy coaches those who are beginners; on the equipment side, there is a 300-meter practice area, a putting green, caddies, and golf carts. A good day out with friends, just a twenty-minute drive from the city. Less so for the golfer seeking untouched nature: buildings still line part of the course, with the accompanying noise and views, and the nearby Royal Golf appears much more preserved. At the clubhouse, you may have to wait a long time to be served.
The trap: starting on foot in the heat, the course is long; a golf cart is essential. The best slot: the last hours of the day, when the light falls on the mountains; the club remains open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays to extend time at the clubhouse.
