Our review
A gourmet riad in the medina
Dar IZZA, nestled in Driba Laarida in the heart of the Marrakech medina, is a riad turned café-restaurant offering a haven of calm away from the bustle of the souks. The central patio, with its traditional zellige tilework, lush plants and fountain, creates an authentic and restful atmosphere that appeals to visitors and Marrakchis alike seeking serenity.
The Moroccan breakfast
The menu showcases the traditional Moroccan breakfast at its finest. The msemen — layered flatbreads — arrive hot and golden, accompanied by honey and butter. The baghrir with their thousand holes soak up amlou (almond and argan paste) with delicious abandon. The mint tea is impeccable, prepared according to tradition. Moroccan pastries — cornes de gazelle, almond briouates, ghriba — complete an offering deeply rooted in tradition.
The riad setting
The riad’s architecture is preserved with respect: tadelakt walls, carved wooden doors, wrought-iron lanterns and colorful mosaics. Every corner is photogenic without being artificial — it’s a real lived-in riad, not a postcard set. The rooftop terrace offers a view of the medina rooftops and the Atlas Mountains in the background. Wifi is available.
Our verdict
Rated 4.8/5 on Google, Dar IZZA is one of the best addresses for a Moroccan breakfast in Marrakech. The welcome is warm, prices are gentle for the quality and setting, and the authenticity of the place is remarkable. It’s the kind of spot you recommend without hesitation — whether for a generous breakfast, afternoon tea, or simply to enjoy the patio’s tranquility. Driba Laarida, Sidi Ahmed Soussi — not to be missed in the medina.
