Musée de la Musique de Mouassine review: our verdict
Three evenings a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 pm, the house comes back to life: an hour of concert, gnaoua or amazigh, in the middle of the collections. The rest of the time, the Musée de la Musique lets its instruments from Morocco and Africa speak through recordings and videos, and some can even be tried out.
The residence is almost worth visiting on its own: restored reception rooms, zelliges and period decorations, up to the old grain store, the matmoura, transformed into an exhibition hall. The rooms are numerous and follow one another without tiring. For music lovers, families and those looking for a break in the middle of the Mouassine souks. Not for a quick visit between two purchases: it takes time to listen.
The best slot: arrive around 5 pm on a concert day, to visit then listen. The best tip: the same ticket is valid for the Maison de la Photographie, keep it for the second visit. Finally, go up to the roof: mint tea or Moroccan lunch at a reasonable price, facing the medina and the mountains.
