Mutalat review: our verdict
You have to climb several narrow flights of stairs to reach Mutalat's terrace, which has only four tables. But what a view: the ramparts of Essaouira and the ocean just behind, close enough that the first table gives the impression of being alone in the world. Down below, the room is tastefully decorated and impeccably kept.
The menu follows the day: fresh product breakfast, toast, fruit bowls, smoothies, brownie for a mid-morning snack. The portions are generous and the service is quick and friendly. For a breakfast for two, a quiet break between strolls in the medina, or a sunset without the crowds of the big terraces. Not for a group: four tables on the roof, it fills up quickly. And not for a late dinner, everything closes at 9 pm.
The dish to order: the tuna and avocado toast, with a fresh fruit smoothie. The good slot: sunset, arriving early to snag a table on the roof. The trap: forgetting your jacket, the wind picks up quickly in the late afternoon; and on Tuesdays, it's closed. Expect around 150 DH for a tea, a toast and a bowl (October 2026 survey).
