Riad Dar Maya review: our verdict
Dar Maya plays the modern riad rather than folklore: bright spaces, spacious air-conditioned rooms, comfortable bedding, and a terrace from where you embrace the rooftops of Essaouira. You are right in the heart of the medina, yet the address remains peaceful. The Michelin Guide distinguished it with a Key in 2026.
The team knows how to be useful: they come to pick you up at the entrance of the city, even after midnight, and a porter will take care of your luggage to the taxi if you ask in advance. Breakfast is generous, served early for morning departures, although it leaves little room for local specialties, classic crêpes rather than Moroccan crêpes. This is the address for a couple or friends who want the comfort of a hotel in the heart of the medina. It is not that of a budget trip: the rates are at the top of the local range, and certain details, bathroom or roof maintenance, do not always follow through.
The good tip: announce your arrival time to be welcomed at the entrance of the city with your luggage. The pitfall: count on quick responses before the stay; confirm your reservation in writing. The best slot: the end of the day on the terrace, facing the rooftops of the medina.
