Sesamo review: our verdict
Sesamo draws its inspiration from Venetian palaces, featuring Murano glass chandeliers, tapestries, and high ceilings, right in the heart of the Royal Mansour. The cuisine bears the signature of chef Massimiliano Alajmo, who blends Italian recipes with Moroccan ingredients, even to the point of pressing his own olive oil. Handmade pasta, risotto, parmigiana, octopus cappuccino, pistachio gelato, and a seven-course journey named « Apriti Sesamo ».
Service is the house's true strength: the head waiter, servers, and sommelier operate with precision, offering tailored pairings and advice that hits the mark. This is the table for a dinner for two that must be remembered, whether for an anniversary or a business lunch to be taken seriously, in the salon or on the terrace. Not for those seeking a readable menu or a well-managed bill: three tasting menus with logic that isn't always clear, dishes that vary from plate to plate, lobster at the top, very expensive drinks, and a dining room that sometimes rushes orders.
The glass to order: a cocktail, to give yourself time to choose. The trap: letting yourself be pushed into ordering; take the time to have the three menus explained. The right slot: Sunday lunch, the only meal of the week, from 12 pm to 4 pm.
