Our review
Japanese cuisine facing the Atlantic
Aïku is a Japanese restaurant on Boulevard de la Corniche in Casablanca, at the foot of the El Hank lighthouse. The location is one of the finest on the Corniche — a direct view of the Atlantic Ocean that gives the venue a unique atmosphere for a Japanese restaurant. The promise is clear: eat sushi facing the sea, in a setting that’s out of the ordinary.
The Japanese menu
Aïku’s menu covers a classic range of Japanese cuisine with some creative touches. The sushi and maki are fresh and well-presented, with signature rolls that blend classic flavors and local ingredients. The sashimi is carefully sliced, and the vinegared rice is well-seasoned. Yakitori grills — chicken, beef, shrimp — provide a welcome hot option. The selection of Asian-inspired cocktails — sake, yuzu, ginger — pairs perfectly with the meal.
Setting and atmosphere
The decor is pared-back and contemporary, with minimalist Japanese lines and ambient lighting that works especially well in the evening. The ocean-facing terrace is the main draw — reservations are advised for a table with a view. The interior is air-conditioned and comfortable, with a lounge atmosphere that settles in as the evening progresses. Service is professional.
Our verdict
Aïku is an address to remember for a seaside Japanese dinner in Casablanca. The setting makes the difference: dining facing the ocean with the sound of waves in the background is a unique experience on the Corniche. The menu is solid without being revolutionary, but the combination — view, atmosphere, cuisine — creates a memorable evening. Boulevard de la Corniche, at the foot of the lighthouse. Reservations recommended.
