El Morocco Club review: our verdict
During the day, you can lunch in the shade of a century-old ficus tree on a cool terrace atop the Kasbah: fresh juices, omelettes, quiches, simple yet well-executed cuisine. In the evening, El Morocco Club changes its attire: white tablecloths, garnet armchairs, low lighting, and the atmosphere of a private club where fusion cuisine—Moroccan and international—focuses on cooking and presentation.
This is the address for a romantic dinner or an elegant drink in cosmopolitan Tangier. But the club also cultivates an insular vibe: the doorman filters guests, the small downstairs bar fills up quickly, and terrace service can be rigid, even for strollers. It's not a place to improvise, nor for a family lunch with a baby, and the bill may seem high for classic dishes like pastilla.
The trap: showing up in the evening without a reservation, even when the terrace seems empty. The best slot: lunch under the ficus, more relaxed and easier to access, from 9 am to 5 pm. The good tip: check the day before going up; it's closed on Mondays.
