Villa Mabrouka review: our verdict
The garden is the raison d'être of Villa Mabrouka. It is superb, the view stretches far, and the décor recalls that the house was Yves Saint Laurent's Tangier retreat before becoming a hotel. At the L'Orangerie restaurant, the cuisine lives up to the venue; on the rooftop, the cocktails are good.
It is the address for a stay for two, an occasional dinner, or a café visit for the view. But the house has its rules: no photos, card payment only, children under 5 not admitted to the restaurant, and no access to the garden if you come only for a coffee. The reception can be cold, and the light menu is expensive for pizzas that don't follow through. Not for a family with young children, nor for a tight budget.
The dish to order: a dinner at L'Orangerie rather than the pizzas from the light menu. The trap: coming with children under 5, access to the restaurant is denied to them. The good plan: for a simple drink, no need to book, but bring a bank card.
