Pepe Ocaña review: our verdict
Pepe Ocaña's counter is designed so you can talk to your neighbour, and that's the whole secret of this small bar in the heart of Tangier. Good music, sometimes live, varied tapas that circulate, and a very international clientele where travellers meet regulars: you come in for a drink, and the evening decides the rest.
The owner, a long-established foreigner, discreet but charismatic, sets the tone: he listens, he sometimes offers a slice of cake to someone celebrating a birthday, and the team serves quickly, with a smile. For an afterwork that stretches out, a night out with friends, or a solo traveller looking for company. Not for a quiet seated dinner: the room is small and the atmosphere is frankly festive.
The trap: believing that tapas accompany the drink, here they are paid for individually, and the bill grows heavier with each plate. The house opens from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., except on Sundays, on Jabha al Watania Street.
