Hotel Sahrai review: our verdict
While most of Fès's finest addresses hide within the medina, the Sahrai has taken a step up. From its rooftop, the view stretches across the city, and the architecture embraces a contemporary approach, with modern lines and Moroccan elegance, in contrast to traditional riads. Another way to stay in Fès, closer to a grand hotel than a guesthouse.
On the comfort front, it's a five-star hotel that delivers on its promises: spacious rooms, quality bedding, a varied breakfast, a lovely pool, and a spa. The staff is attentive, including with families and young children, and the hotel's dining has its admirers. It's the address for a stay seeking the calm and services of a grand hotel, outside the medina, in the new city. It's not for an immersion in the alleys, nor for an improvised rooftop drink without a reservation.
The right time: late afternoon on the rooftop, for the view of Fès. The pitfall: showing up at the rooftop without being a hotel guest, relying on the first-come, first-served rule; visitors have been turned away from tables, all announced as reserved. Call and get confirmation.
