The Tent review: our verdict
What we remember about The Tent is the bartender before the tent. The bar has set up under a tent, right in the Mandarin Oriental park; its cocktail menu travels from one region of Morocco to another, with a few tapas for the table. At nightfall, it also hosts Hacienda Don Julio, which turns tequila into cocktails and Mexican cuisine into small plates.
The drinks are balanced, carefully crafted, and the team behind the bar takes the time to explain, suggest, and check in to see if everything is going well, to the point that some return for the same bartender. The atmosphere remains relaxed, chic without being stiff: the greenery turns golden at sunset, then the music takes over. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink for two, a drink before heading to another table elsewhere in the resort, or a leisurely end to the day. No need to look for a dance floor or cheap rounds: you're drinking at a palace, the bill will remind you.
The drink to order: a tequila cocktail from the Don Julio menu, or let the bartender compose one according to your tastes. The best time: opening at 5 pm, to watch the light fall on the gardens before nightfall.
