Villa Taj Marrakech review: our verdict
A three-day wedding where no one leaves the premises: this is the scenario for which Villa Taj was designed. The estate accommodates up to 52 guests in 21 rooms and lodges, set on a hectare of century-old olive trees where even an Australian baobab grows. The 25-metre heated swimming pool winds through the palms with sunbeds installed right at the water's edge; a jacuzzi accommodates twenty-four people, and the rooftop terrace offers a stunning view of the Atlas Mountains.
The villa has its own event agency: decor renewed for every meal, reception tent, outdoor ceremony, cocktail party followed by a dance evening, Moroccan and international cuisine. Couples organizing from abroad are guided here, with decoration and caterer advice included, and the large team knows how to remain discreet. For a wedding, a large anniversary party, or a weekend with friends who want to stay in their own bubble. Not for an impromptu lunch: the villa is only open for private rental, stay, or event.
The trap: believing all lodges are equal, as their standing varies and some maintenance details are noticeable. The good tip: book neighbouring villas and hotels for guests beyond 52, the Fairmont being only five minutes away, on the road to Amizmiz.
