Our review
An iconic café in the heart of the Marrakech medina
Café des Épices occupies a prime location on place Rahba Lakdima, a stone's throw from Jemaa el-Fna square in the heart of the Marrakech medina. Open for over a decade, this café-restaurant has become an essential stop for visitors exploring the souks, offering a welcome break on a rooftop terrace overlooking the bustling spice market below.
Moroccan menu and brunch
The menu blends traditional Moroccan specialties with brunch options: tagines (the beef tagine is particularly recommended by regulars), Moroccan salads, sandwiches, mint tea and fresh fruit juices. Prices remain reasonable for the touristy location, and portions are fair. Breakfast and brunch attract a morning crowd that enjoys the calmer atmosphere before the influx of visitors.
The terrace and atmosphere
The main attraction of Café des Épices is its multi-level rooftop terrace. From the upper floors, the view looks down onto the spice market square, the rooftops of the medina and the perpetual bustle of the souks. The atmosphere is relaxed and bright, ideal for a tea break while watching the passing crowds. Wi-Fi is available and the staff is described as welcoming and helpful by the vast majority of visitors.
