La Terrasse by Jean-François Piège review: our verdict
Here, the carbonara is made with calamari and smoked beef, and it is this dish that most defines Jean-François Piège's menu at Selman. The Michelin-starred chef serves French cuisine with a Mediterranean twist, clear and rich: fresh dorada tartare, mimosa eggs, red tuna, and rigatoni with lobster. The terrace overlooks the large swimming pool and the palace gardens, designed by Jacques Garcia, and it sometimes happens that the house's thoroughbreds pass by during the meal.
A birthday lunch, friends visiting who need to be impressed, an afternoon that slips from tea to aperitif: the house knows how to receive, and the head of service handles the fluctuations with elegance. For there are some, sometimes, at a price level where one does not expect them. Not for a weekday dinner: from Tuesday to Saturday, the terrace closes at 6 p.m. And you need a car or a taxi, the road to Amizmiz is not around the corner.
Dish to order: calamari carbonara with smoked beef. Best time slot: lunch facing the pool, or Sunday and Monday evenings, the only two dinners of the week. The trap: the mimosa eggs, impeccable but expensive for what they are.
