Maison Sarayan review: our verdict
You leave a dusty street in an industrial zone, push open a door, and find yourself in a house: living rooms, bedrooms, set tables, as if the owners had just stepped out. Sarah Baumas and Yann Dobry have composed Maison Sarayan as an inhabited interior, across 1,000 m² in Sidi Ghanem, with antique furniture brought from Syria, India, and Africa, tableware and linens, and even a few garments.
In the centre, a fountain garden and patio where you sit for a coffee or juice, in peace, which appeals to children and adults alike after a tour of showrooms. For lovers of décor and antique pieces, it's a stop that offers ideas for the whole house. For a meal, temper your expectations: short menu, slow service, airless dining room, and a dish that doesn't match the decor or the bill.
The trap: arrive in the late afternoon, the house closes at 4 pm on weekdays and at 2 pm on Saturdays, and remains closed on Sundays. Come for the boutique, keep the garden to breathe before heading back out.
