P L Place Marrakech review: our verdict
Fourteen people, no more. P.L Place won't grow, and that's its entire charm. On the Charouf side, in the Palmeraie, seven rooms, suites and lodges, most with private terraces, surround a pool set in the middle of a park so tree-filled that birds cover everything else. The restaurant La Coupole seats only forty around seasonal produce, while the bar Le Jardin overlooks the pool.
The welcome sets the tone: tea waiting in the room upon arrival, an improvised terrace dinner for those who land late, staff taking care of everything at all hours. Breakfast, generous and served facing the view, remains the memory you take away, along with the spa massages. For a couple, a small group of friends, or the end of a trip where you just want to breathe, the choice is good. Not for those who want to walk out in the evening: it takes a quarter of an hour's drive to reach the centre.
The good tip: the pool and lunch day pass, to enjoy the park without sleeping there. The trap: forgetting there's nothing nearby, so drinks and meals taken on site cost more than in town. For journeys, the house can provide a driver.
