Palais Khum review: our verdict
A turtle as a welcome committee, a date palm in the middle of the inner garden: Palais Khum has personality to spare. This former Dar El Bacha fondouk, restored by an Italian artist owner, offers eleven rooms and suites, some themed, three gardens, terraces facing the Atlas for some, an indoor pool, and a hammam. The restaurant blends Morocco and Italy, and in the lounge-bar, it's the mojito you order.
The spa is skilled, with exfoliation and massage on the menu, and the staff is attentive. Jemaa el-Fna is a ten-minute walk away, along with the antique dealers and workshops of the neighborhood as neighbors: an ideal base for experiencing the medina on foot, as a couple or with friends. Less so for those who have difficulty walking: the elevator has given out on a rainy day, and a request for a ground-floor room has not always been honored.
The pitfall: a room above the bar if you have a light sleep, as the evening activity can be heard. The good find: an exfoliation followed by a massage at the spa. In winter, rooms and pool are cool: bring a light sweater, and confirm in writing a ground-floor room if needed.
