Samanah Golf Club by Nicklaus review: our verdict
Here, every drive that goes too wide ends up in the sand: the Nicklaus Design touch is evident in the bunkers placed where balls land and around the greens. The course, 6,655 meters, par 72, spread over about one hundred hectares, moves from palm trees to almost desert expanses, with the Atlas Mountains in the distance on clear days. The greens, fast and with firm slopes, require as much reading as touch.
Before teeing off, you warm up on a seven-hectare practice area with unlimited balls, or on the nine-hole pitch & putt, where pros offer lessons. On the way back, the clubhouse brings together the pro shop, bar, and restaurant, the Mulligan, whose terrace feeds well without overwhelming the bill. Small attentions on the way: a mint tea served halfway through the course, clubs cleaned up. The regular golfer who likes to be challenged will find their account here, just as a group coming to spend the day on the course. Tight budget: refrain, as the green fees align with European rates.
The good tip: go through the practice before tackling the first hole, the greens do not forgive cold feet. The trap: underestimate the drive, count three-quarters of an hour from Marrakech.
