Capricci review: our verdict
At the heart of Capricci stands a wine cellar, and it is more than just decoration: you choose your bottle here, with expert advice, to accompany fresh, seasonal Italian cuisine. You dine here at the Fairmont Royal Palm, and the menu aims for gastronomic heights rather than trattoria fare.
Several settings for different evenings: a long communal table for groups, private salons behind mashrabiya screens, the Captain's Table near the fireplace, and a terrace facing the palms and the mirror pond. The attentive yet relaxed service is part of the pleasure, and on some evenings, musicians play softly in the background. It's a place to come as a couple to celebrate an anniversary or host a guest in peace; not for an impromptu evening out from the medina, since you'll need a car or a taxi.
The trap: aiming for lunch, as the restaurant serves only breakfast in the morning and dinner, from 6 pm to 11 pm. The best slot: dinner on the terrace, facing the pond, on evenings when the musicians are present. Hours are reduced in summer, so a call before heading out avoids surprises.
