Spa de La Mamounia review: our verdict
What strikes you first is the scale: over 2,500 m², three hammams, one of which can be privatised, ten cabins, three designed for couples, and two heated pools, one covered and one outdoors, plus a jacuzzi. As for brands, Valmont, Augustinus Bader and marocMaroc; as for the salon, hair, nails and beard care. Around it, the palace estate offers plenty to keep you occupied: a gym in the gardens, two clay tennis courts and a billiard room.
Dim lighting and decor with oriental accents establish a sense of calm. It's offered as a birthday gift, or you might try the hammam, scrub and massage trio for the first time, and the experience is beautiful when you land on a gentle, attentive practitioner. For those comparing services, however, the rating drops: the hammam and scrub room offer nothing more than other venues in the city, some facilities show their age, and the bill, it remains that of a palace.
The pitfall: not specifying the desired pressure from the start, as the gesture varies greatly from one hand to another. The spa opens every day from 9 am to 9 pm; the covered pool accepts only those over 18, or those aged 16 and over with an adult.
