Azalai Urban Souk review: our verdict
An old wooden door, a passage you wouldn't notice from the boulevard: this is how you access Faiçal Zahraoui's table. The chef revisits Moroccan classics with the seasons, using local produce and modern techniques, in sought-after plates carefully arranged. And it's often the end of the meal that you remember: the pastry, offered in variations, is one of the venue's major assets.
Elegant decor, cozy small terrace, and a view of the open kitchen from a few tables. The service is smiling and attentive, and the chef is happy to tell you about his dishes. Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free diets are taken seriously. Ideal for a tête-à-tête, a professional meal, or friends curious about Moroccan cuisine that goes beyond family recipes. Less so for those expecting grandmother's tajine as it is, or a Sunday meal, a day the kitchen is closed.
The dish to order: the desserts, to keep in mind from the moment you enter. The trap: arriving late, as the kitchen stops at 22 h; for dinner, book in advance. Before leaving, take a look at the corner boutique, for dishes and crafts.
