Chouchou review: our verdict
It all starts with a kamado, a Japanese barbecue grill set in the open kitchen: this is where tomahawk, lamb and beef come out, smoked or braised. Alongside the grilled dishes, the menu revisits tajines, welcomes prawns and risotto marin, and sources from local producers whenever possible; even the cheeseburger is made with lamb meat.
Chouchou is also a hotel with carefully crafted decor, featuring a rooftop, pool and bar perched above Hassan II Avenue. For lunch, there's a blues playlist and a relaxed atmosphere; in the evening, the room comes alive, and bartenders serve creative cocktails alongside a selection of Moroccan wines. The team isn't thrown off by a table of ten arriving late, even if it means closing later. Perfect for a dinner with friends, a first date or a sunny lunch; those who want to dine in silence should come at midday.
Dish to order: a kamado-cooked meat, smoked or braised, with its accompaniments. The insider tip: the three-course formula, to keep a hand on the bill. The best time: the last drink on the roof, as the house is open from 7 am to midnight.
