La Terrasse des Epices review: our verdict
It's for the sweet-and-salty lamb tajine, perfectly balanced, that we climb to the roof of La Terrasse des Épices, above the Souk Cherifia. Around it, the menu offers other tajines, with candied lemon or vegetarian, generous salads, and a few more unexpected plates, such as ravioli with a lemon emulsion. The Koutoubia and the Atlas serve as a backdrop, and the terrace is divided into sunlit tables, open lounges, and more discreet alcoves.
At lunch, shaded tables and misters make it a stop for a group of girlfriends or a bachelorette party; in the evening, an acoustic duo or a DJ sets up a lounge atmosphere, and cocktails blend local spices with Western spirits. People come here for a medina without the folklore, far from the bustle of Jemaa el-Fna. Not for a tight budget: prices are those of a European capital.
Dish to order: the sweet-and-salty lamb tajine. Best time to go: sunset, which must be booked, as service runs by time slots. Best tip: finish at the house pastry shop, on the ground floor, for its Oriental cakes.
