Palais Mehdi review: our verdict
Route des Jardins de la Palmeraie, a fifteen-minute taxi ride from the medina, Palais Mehdi is a former residence turned hotel set across three hectares of parkland. The architecture is Hispano-Moorish, the décor draws inspiration from the imagery of oriental tales, and a collection of Moroccan art adorns the lounges. There are 22 suites, the largest, known as the royal suite, spanning 280 m², most featuring a private terrace overlooking the gardens or the mountains.
The park is the highlight: orange trees, bougainvilleas, roses, hammocks strung beneath the palms, and an outdoor swimming pool of 400 m² where Moroccan breakfast is served. The spa offers hammam, sauna, and fitness room, while the terrace restaurant serves Moroccan and international cuisine. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is that of a private palace, with few guests, attracting couples and groups of friends seeking tranquility.
À savoir : the hotel could use a renovation, and maintenance and service vary by season (air conditioning, pool cleanliness, wait times at the restaurant). In summer, check your suite's air conditioning upon arrival, and come to sleep rather than for a simple lunch. Prices, above 1,900 dirhams, remain reasonable for a palace of this size, and the park retains all its charm.
