Dardar Rooftop review: our verdict
A bar downstairs, decorated rooms above, then the roof: at Dardar, you climb the floors to reach the panorama: medina terraces, the Koutoubia tower rising above, the Atlas Mountains in the background. Close to Jemaa el-Fna, they serve alcohol, which is not common in the neighbourhood, and cocktails and mocktails are well-crafted.
On the plate, reinvented chicken pastilla, fusion tacos, grilled octopus: Morocco travels, in dishes made for sharing. Service is fast, sometimes too fast, with dishes prepared in advance and tea sent out without being infused; some starters are swimming in butter. Desserts, however, win everyone over, including the chocolate cake. Musicians and a DJ animate the roof, for lunch and in the evening. Perfect for a lunch for two or a drawn-out aperitif; less so for a true gourmet meal.
The dish to order: a dessert, the safest part of the meal. The trap: arriving without a reservation, as the welcome can then be curt and the table poorly placed. The best slot: the end of the day, when the roof lanterns are lit and the medina takes on its evening hues.
