Dar Moha review: our verdict
A palace that was once the residence of Pasha Glaoui and later the home of couturier Pierre Balmain, featuring a pool in the courtyard, greenery everywhere, and musicians in the evenings: Dar Moha impresses even before the first bite. Chef Moha takes Moroccan cuisine on a journey, from reinvented pastilla to desserts where local fruits meet traditional pastry.
The tasting menu starts strong, with a selection of revisited starters that remains the highlight of the meal. Then, it gets a bit worse: dry meats, dishes arriving lukewarm, and a mackerel and prawn tajine judged meagre. The service, however, does not falter, precise and attentive as in a fine dining establishment. The setting lends itself to a tête-à-tête or to closing a stay with a memorable evening; less so for hearty appetites that rely on the main course to leave them fully satisfied.
The dish to order: the tasting menu, for its series of starters. The trap: betting on the main course to justify the bill. The best time slot: dinner, when the musicians play around the pool; reservations are recommended.
