Othello review: our verdict
Venice rather than Marrakech: at Othello, the sea and the lagoon set the tone. The name refers to the hero of Shakespeare, who is said to have been inspired by a Moroccan ambassador sent to the court of Queen Elizabeth I. Depending on the catch, the menu features shellfish pasta, Venetian-style sardines, lobster cannelloni, or the daily sea bass, accompanied by vegetables from the garden.
The room plays on intimacy, with low lighting and decor that recalls the Serenissima, and the inner courtyard takes on all its charm at night, when the garden is lit by candlelight. The service attends to everything without drawing attention. Come as a couple, for a couple's anniversary or a quiet dinner, in the Es Saadi estate, in the Hivernage. Not for lunch or a lively gathering: the house serves only in the evening, and the volume remains low.
The best slot: when night falls, to watch the candles light up in the courtyard. Service from 7:30 pm to 11 pm, until 10:30 pm on Saturdays.
