La Cour des Lions review: our verdict
Lifting your eyes is part of the meal: under the dome of La Cour des Lions, carved stone and intricately plastered work echo the spirit of the Alhambra in Granada, designed by architect Aziz Lamghari. The dining room occupies the top floor of the Es Saadi hotel, in Hivernage, and its large windows overlook the park, the illuminated city, and the Atlas Mountains.
The menu draws on ancient recipes, mourouzia, pigeon pastilla, saffron-taliouine-spiced bar tajine. But it is the lamb couscous that stands out, generous and fragrant, with vegetables that come partly from Potager du Bled, an organic farm owned by the hotel's proprietors. Soft Moroccan music, attentive service: this is where you bring your family, guests to impress, or a romantic evening. Lunch is not served here; service runs only in the evening, between 7 pm and 11 pm.
Dish to order: Berber lamb couscous, to share at the center of the table. Good time slot: Ramadan, for the generous and varied ftour buffet. Good tip: ask for a table near the glass windows, to dine facing the illuminated city.
